“The love of a family is life’s greatest blessing” – Unknown

Jodi Lynn and Traci pride themselves on creating the perfect family portrait that can hang on your wall and be cherished for years to come. With that said, we also LOVE to have fun, laugh, and play at your session to show off those genuine giggles and the connection your family shares in fun family photos. While on a recent trip to Texas, Jodi Lynn met up with one of our longtime Le Boudoir Studio clients and did just that! The mom in this family started out as one of our Le Boudoir Studio clients and worked her way into our hearts and lives. She visits our Scottsdale boudoir studio every year so Jodi Lynn was delighted when she got the chance to photograph her family in their hometown. Her family was so full of laughter and love it’s hard to pick a favorite image.

When families took their yearly portraits, it used to be that everyone wore matching outfits or the same color. It was simple and great if you had a large family. But nowadays we are seeing less matching and more individual style with family portraits. We know these are photos you are going to hang on your walls and cherish for years to come. And although it can seem overwhelming to find the perfect thing to wear, it doesn’t need to be! This Texas family already had great style and pulled together a cohesive and fashionable look for their family portraits.

For Mom and Dad our client chose neutral colors for their clothing and seasonally suitable accessories like bold mustard earrings and beautiful scarf.

To give the girls their own individual looks Mom picked outfits that have coordinating colors but different fabrics and textures. We love how they mixed jeans into all the outfits to give a cohesive feel. Each little lady looked stylish but age appropriate.

Rounding out the family was their sweet son and adorable puppy who also got styled for this family session. To coordinate with his sisters, Mom picked mustard pants with a jean shirt and a nice pop of color with his shoes.

5 Style Tips for Your Family Photo Session

The family of six above coordinated outfits while still showing off their personal style! Follow the 5 tips below and you too will have stylish family portraits to display and cherish for years to come. And don’t forget to check out our own outfit inspirations after the tips below!

Number 1- Coordinating colors not matching

Long gone are the days of everyone wearing a white shirt and matching (so 90’s!) Instead, pick a couple of colors and choose clothes that will fit your location’s color scheme. Not sure what your location looks like? You can ask us when you pick your location with us :).

Number 2- Look at your home decor
Do you like bright colors? Neutrals? Since you will be hanging these photos in your house you want to make sure the colors of your clothes go with your home decor and color scheme.

Number 3- Accessorize!
Accessories not only add to your outfit but they can be fun to use in photos. Have Dad wear a tie for Mom to hold. Necklaces for the kids to play with or hats to hide behind.

Number 4- Limit patterns
We love playing with patterns! From stripes to floral patterns, a pattern can be a great way to show-off your style. However, not everyone in the photo should wear patterns as it may distract the final image. Our suggestion is have Mom wear a fun print or pattern and everyone coordinate off her outfit. Another big style tip from us at Photography by Jodi Lynn & Co. is please no logos, we want your images to be about you not Nike or Mickey Mouse ;).

Number 5- Always p
lan ahead!
Once you book your session, start thinking of the clothes right away. You may think certain clothes will fit your kids or that one dress is clean. If you wait until the day of or day before you may run into an issue of clothes not fitting, being dirty or need to be dry cleaned.
